Rate plan architecture: make choice easier to manage

By HotelOnline editorial team1 min read

Start with a reason for every plan

Each rate plan should have a clear job. It may support a particular booking condition, package, market, or moment in demand. If a team cannot explain why a plan exists, it may be difficult to maintain consistently.

Keep differences meaningful

Guests and staff should be able to understand what changes between options. Focus on practical differences such as flexibility, inclusions, or booking conditions rather than creating choices that look different but behave the same way.

Review the maintenance burden

More options create more work. Check whether the team can confidently update, communicate, and review every active plan. A smaller set of useful plans can be easier to manage than a complicated structure.

Revisit the structure with evidence

Use booking questions, reservation feedback, and day-to-day team experience to identify where the structure needs attention.
